Tyke MD Blaze are off to a great start
Good evening everyone. I felt an article was due since the last. With our 3 dryland sessions ending and our ice times beginning our coaching staff are very honoured and extremely excited with the start that these children are off too.

Our dryland was a brand new experience with the team learning some core exercises to strengthen their bodies and help them get off to a positive healthy start. We had 3 one and a half hour sessions that focused on some stretching, exercises, track and field, ball hockey/hockey structure, team work, passing and shooting and game competition. We concluded with a healthy snack and gave everyone an opportunity to voice and answer a few things. Overall a great team bonding experience which led us onto the our on ice sessions. We have now skated 3 times and we have been consistently pleased with the overall skill level and development of these kids. They are listening very well and executing tasks put forth of them. We keep repeating to them that most of the core skills are very necessary to continue to reach the next level. I will attach a few handouts outlining our dryland exercises and our on ice practice plans. It is up to you if you choose to continue to use some of these things with your child at home to ever increase their talent and ability. We look so forward at the opportunity to continue teaching and educating your children to our fullest potential.
Our team is off to a great start. We started our fundraising right away and have been doing awesome with our sponsors, parent contributions and continued fundraising. The association has approved all of our fundraising and budget as to date. We have received permission for our 2 tournaments and they are booked, paid and hotel reserved. We will ask for special permission to enter another. The kids helmets, gloves, pants, wind suits, hockey bags, jerseys, practice jerseys are all sized ordered and on their way to us. We have our golf tournament upcoming and everything will all soon to fall into place. Our social media networks are up and running and looking great. Great job Blaze parents. Be proud be loud.
Something I want to address with all parents that all of us coaches have discussed are the following. These are, after this month, going to be a team of 7 year olds. It is highly recommended that all kids use a YOUTH stick cut anywhere between the chin and the nose. Please double check all skates for sharpness as well as all other equipment for proper fitting. If there is an equipment malfunction on the ice we have asked all kids to refrain from turning to their parents and have asked them to go to the team trainer to have the problem rectified. Also we ask that parents try not to wrap the skate lace around the child's ankle. This prevents the toes from restricting as well as slows the strength development in the foot and ankle. We also would like to see the laces done up all the way as we feel these 7 year olds haven't developed enough strength yet to remove a rung. Pretty simple stuff. If anyone has any questions or concerns please ask. Thanks folks. Go Team Blaze. See you all very soon.
