Georgina Tyke MD Blazed thru the Muskokas on the weekend
The Georgina Blaze Tyke MD traveled to the South Muskoka Minor Hockey tournament this past weekend. It was the 2nd and final tournament of tthe year for the Blaze. The games were held in Bracebridge and Gravenhurst.

The Blaze's first opponent was rival Richmond Hill Stars 1 Friday afternoon. The team that won the Tyke A MD regular season division and was the one of two teams to oust the Blaze from the playoffs. The Blaze were 0-4 vs the Stars to date. That all changed this weekend as the boys knew it would take everything they had to defeat their nemesis. The Blaze took game 1 with a 4-3 win scoring in the final minutes to secure the victory. Their next opponent was the St. Catherines Falcons on Saturday morning and they defeated them by a score of 7-1. Up next was the Erin Hillsburgh Devils. The Blaze defeated the Devils by a score of 6-1 to finish round robin play and sit a top in first place of division A. The Blaze's next opponent was the second place team in division B the Port Perry Predators played on Sunday morning. The Blaze were focused and defeated the Predators by a score of 8-1 to secure a spot in the Championship game held on Sunday afternoon. The other semi final had the Richmond Hill Stars facing off against the Cobourg Cougars. This game was very close and entertaining withe the Stars coming out on top by a goal. This meant a rematch with the division rival Stars for the Championship. The game was a very tight checking affair with the Stars taking the lead in the first period 1-0. The Blaze were determined and dug deep to tie the score at 1-1. The game then had many offensive chances only too have both teams goaltenders turn aside everything they faced. The game went into a 5 minute sudden death 3 on 3 overtime. An intense 4 and half minutes passed before the Blaze found the back of the net for a 2-1 OT win to capture their 2nd Championship in as many tournaments. The coaching staff was very pleased with the effort of the team and every single player contributed to the outcome. What a way to finish off the year.
Throughout the year the Blaze had a 2-1 exhibition record. A 9-1 tournament record. A 17-5-2 regular season record and a 3-6 playoff record. Congratulations Georgina Blaze Tyke MD on an excellent first rep hockey season.
