Sean Whittaker, Presidents Speech

"As with any journey, there comes a time when change is necessary. After much reflection, I’ve decided to step down as President of Georgina Minor Hockey, effective immediately. This decision has not been easy, but I believe it’s the right step for both myself and for the continued growth of this wonderful organization. I’m pleased to announce that Tim Marshall has been appointed as the new President of GMHA. I have every confidence that Tim will lead us to even greater success.

When I first became President 10 years ago, my goal was to help build an environment where young athletes could not only develop their skills on the ice but also grow as individuals—learning the values of teamwork, integrity, and perseverance. Together, we’ve achieved so much: from growing our player base to expanding community involvement, strengthening our player development programs, making the Silverstick tournament one of the premier events in the country, and even helping form Upper York Minor Hockey. It’s been an incredible journey, and I am immensely proud of what we’ve accomplished.

Looking forward, I’ll be stepping into a new role as Regional Director for the OMHA, which will offer new opportunities for professional growth and allow me to contribute to youth sports on an even broader scale. While I will no longer serve as President, I will continue to support GMHA and remain deeply committed to our mission and values. I’m confident that with fresh leadership, Georgina Minor Hockey will continue to thrive.

I want to take this moment to thank all of you—our players, coaches, volunteers, executive board, and supporters—for making my time as President so meaningful. Your dedication, passion, and spirit have been a constant source of inspiration. To the board and administrative team, thank you for your collaboration and leadership. The future of Georgina Minor Hockey is in capable hands, and I am excited to see all that you will accomplish.

It has been an incredible honor to serve as your President, and I look forward to continuing to support Georgina Minor Hockey in the years to come. I’ll see you all at the rink next season, and I’m excited to be part of this organization as we continue to grow and succeed together."

Elections were held for GMHA Director Positions.
The following were acclaimed for the next two seasons:
Director of Hockey Operations - Adam Jackson
Director of House & Local League - Stephanie Bagnarol
Director of Tournaments - Amanda Mathieson

Nominations for appointed positions were received and will be voted on, by the Board, at the next monthly meeting:
Director of Coach and Player Development
Referee in Chief

A note from the New GMHA President, Tim Marshall

"I’d like to take a moment to recognize someone who has had a tremendous impact on our hockey community — our outgoing president, Sean Whittaker.

Over the years, Sean has dedicated countless hours, energy, and heart to our minor hockey association. Whether it was organizing schedules, dealing with the unexpected, advocating for our players, or just being a constant and calming presence at the rink — he has always led with passion, fairness, and a deep love for the game.

Under his leadership, we’ve seen incredible growth not only in our programs, but in the development of our players, our volunteers, and our sense of community. His commitment has helped shape the culture of this organization and left a legacy that will be felt for years to come.

As he moves on to new projects, we want to express our deepest gratitude. Sean, thank you for everything — for your leadership, your time, your integrity, and your unwavering support of this association.

We wish you the very best in what’s next. Just know that the door here is always open, and the ice is never far away."
