Most of you now can see how our new website is set up. Although it is similar to our previous site, there are some new things to know. Particularly important is
how to be signed in to make sure you are notified of changes pertaining to your son/daughters team as well as things affecting the membership in general.
Why is is important that everyone is signed on to the website?
The new website is geared towards the scheduling side of the association so we are using it to help make everyones life easier. This means we will be requiring each and every parent to sign up for email or text messages at the very minimum (see Manage Subcriptions below). There are no more excel spreadsheets to email around. Every single game/practice for every GMHA team (including Hockey School) will be added to the website by our Ice Scheduler, Dave Sedore. Similarly, our Referee in Chief, Adam Whitaker, is making sure that each game has referee and time keepers assigned. This benefits you as a parent because once you are signed on properly, any schedule changes pertaining to your "team" will be emailed or texted to you. For REP teams, this is particularly important when you may be playing an evening and wondering if that game in Barrie is still on due to the snow falling outside. If our Ice Scheduler cancels that game....every single person will receive notification with one click of the computer. For HL teams, if there are changes to your weekend game/practice the same will happen. There will also be no chance that an hour of ice can be double booked. The software does not allow it.
Unlike our previous site, there is no sign-in to utilize the site (unless you are a manager/convenor who can make changes to the site). There are basically three levels of "connection" you may choose to do.
MANAGE SUBSCRIPTIONS (Receive email or text message update)
We are asking EVERYONE to do this. It simply means that you will receive an email or text message update on news pertaining to your team. Every single team GMHA player will have a team website this year that they will be assigned to.
*Website HOME page on the lower left side you will see "Manage Subcriptions".
*Click on email or text
*Click all the Teams that you want to be updated on. (I recommend clicking Schedule changes, News articles &
Events).
*Don't forget to click on Organization (New Article & Events)
*Don't forget to click on Development for either Player (Friday night Shawn Lavoy skates) or Goaltender (Saturday Minielly Goaltender Clinics). (I recommend clicking Schedule changes, News articles & Events).
Calendar (Create a customized "Hockey" Calendar to Print)
*Website HOME page on the top right click on "MY CALENDAR"
*Top right click on "CUSTOMIZE MY CALENDAR"
*Simply click those teams you want to appear (Don't forget to add Development for Players or Goalies)
*Print
Sync Calendar on website to your computer and/or mobile phone
*Bottom of "MY CUSTOM CALENDAR" click on either MyCal or Subscribe
* Depending on what your set up is will depend on where you go from here but there is an instruction sheet you will see that walks you through some scenerios.
So far, the biggest complaint is that the new website does not generate "reminders" like our previous site did. You can set your own reminders up through your computer calendar (ie) Outlook.
Please take the time to set yourself up. We realize that House League teams are just nicely getting on the ice, but once parents know their child's team they can get set up and you will be connected for the season.
