The short-handed Minor Midget Georgina Blaze AE team continues to impress with huge win in Stoney Creek., Accomplishments, Minor Midget, 2014-2015, AE/MD (Georgina Minor Hockey Association)

After almost having the team fold because of lack of players for various reasons, the team would see just enough players turn out for tryouts to be able to ice a team.  With 12 skaters and 2 goalies a team was formed.  The team would sign 6 new players 5 of which had never played rep hockey.  The team consists of 14 players that do not give up and just have a ton of determination.  This past weekend the team participated in the Ace Bailey Memorial Tournament in Stoney Creek.  Playing shorthanded all season with only 14 players rostered - this weekend would prove to be no different.  With two players already out because of injury the team would have to dig down deep and dig down deep they did.  With the help of several AP’s from the Bantam AE team in the seeding rounds and a veteran AP from last year’s team the team would receive a bye into the Semi-finals where they would face a very tough Markham team.  With a decisive 2-0 win the team would earn a berth into the finals again against a very talented Brampton team.  The team would once again be shorthand as a player was lost to a suspension.  The Blaze had previously faced Brampton in the finals earlier in the season in a tournament and had lost 8-1 in the finals with the minimum of 7 players on the bench.  This time would be different though with 11 skaters, fantastic goal tending and sheer determination the team came out on top with a huge 2-1 win over Brampton to win the 2014 Ace Bailey Memorial Tournament.  Congrats boys!
