CUJO Invitational
This past weekend the Georgina Blaze Tyke MD competed in the CUJO Invitational held by the town of Newmarket and the Newmarket Redmen. With 32 teams entered into this tournament the Blaze knew it would be a very tough competitive tournament. It would take 5 straight wins to be the sole undefeated team and only one team could hold that title.
The Blaze started the tournament off with a 9-2 loss to the Niagara Falls Flyers. They were a very good team and would make it to the Platinum Final eventually losing to the undefeated London Bandits. However after that loss the Blaze rallied to beat the West London Hawks 5-3. The Blaze then beat the Aurora Tigers 5-0. They then beat the TNT Tornadoes 4-1. This would set them up to play the Riverside Rangers who hail from Windsor. Riverside's only loss prior was to the Kitchener Rangers. The Blaze entered this game knowng this was the 2nd highest bracket besides the Platinum Final to win. The Diamond final was a nail biter. The Blaze was down 2-1 with 2 plus minutes remaining until the team tied it up and scored the winner with about a minute to go defeating the Riverside Rangers 3-2 to capture the Diamond Championship. Congrats on winning your first tournament of the year Georgina Blaze Tyke MD. A hard fought battle against some very competitive teams. Keep it up as we roll into the playoffs.
